Whisk @ Queen Street, Georgetown, Penang

One of the long-established cafes in town- Chai Diam Ma is taken over by Whisk recently. Whisk appealed to netizens from its aesthetically pleasing sweet treats... specially rolled out for Valentine's Day. The interior decor remains unchanged but the menu has taken a spin... with new items like Salmon Don, Breakfast Toasts and a range of their home-made desserts... seasonal items available with constant upgrades to the menu. The place is quite rundown (though some would call it nostalgic-charm) and the air-conditioners were not functioning properly (due to wooden flooring), we do not see the place as a comfortable space to chill out... for if you are there for the food, the menu is not shabby (though a little small).

Salmon Don (Rm 19.90)

Breakfast Toasts- Banana & Peanut Butter + Ham & Egg (Rm 12.90 for 2)

Mango Mousse (Rm 14.90)

Sashimi lovers could go for the Salmon Don... diced fresh Salmon and Avocado served with Japanese Rice, completed with a scoop of Ebiko (Shrimp Roe). The fish was fresh and the Rice was delicately cooked, exactly like what we expected from a bowl of standard Salmon Don. The Breakfast Toast was equally great, we had Banana-Peanut Butter and Ham-Egg Toasts. We were afraid that the Toasts would be too dry but they turned out to be just fine; flavors were pretty straight-forward and we could not complain for that price tag. Mango Mousse on the other hand was less-satisfying. Though the dessert had a fair share of Mangoes but it lacked the 'X' factor... we thought it might be a little overly creamy as well.
