Daily Fish Village (天天鱼海鲜村) @ Air Hitam, Penang.

Daily Fish Village (天天鱼海鲜村) is definitely not new, especially amongst the fish lovers. The Chinese restaurant was established in 2014 and within 5 years, it has expanded its business operations and now, it has 3 branches under its name. The place is known to offer some of the freshest Brown Marbled Groupers (龙虎斑) in town, the owner farms his own fish and therefore, able to source his supplies constantly. The branch at Air Hitam is huge and it's hard to miss the place- a stone's throw distance away from Sunshine Farlim, Daily Fish Village occupies the corner lot of a row of shop houses and the menu is big... more than good enough to cover most classic Chinese dishes. Those with deeper pockets may go for their Seafood, ranging from shell fish to fresh fish or other exotic choices while the budget-watchers may stick to the usual Chinese Zhu Char dishes. Fast-service, moderate price points, consistent quality and great variety of dishes, this can be a good spot for both casual family-meals or celebratory occasions.

Steamed Brown Marbled Grouper 清蒸龙虎斑 (Rm 10 for every 100 grams/ Rm 90 for this portion)

Blanched Octopus 特酱八爪鱼 (Rm 20/ small)

Stir Fried Egg with mock Shark's Fin 桂花鱼翅蛋 (Rm 20/ small)

Stir Fried 4-vegetables with Sambal 四大天王 (Rm 15/ small)

Singaporean Bee Hoon 新加坡炒米粉 (Rm 5/ small)

The Brown Marbled Grouper is one of the most-ordered dishes, we had ours steamed and served with premium Soy sauce. The fish was fresh with the most delicate flesh, the texture was addictively bouncy with a hint of seafood sweetness. It was good but could be better if it was served to us piping hot (did not come as hot as expected). The Octopus was alright, though we were a little underwhelmed with the portion and price, we thought the special sauce blended well with the Seafood (the winning factor was the subtle sweetness with a mild heat). If Rice is too mainstream, go for their Singaporean Bee Hoon. For Rm 5, we thought the portion was rather generous and the noodles were expertly cooked (and seasoned). Though there were some hits and misses, we were generally pleased with the food quality.

  1. Mock sharks' fins? What are they actually? Glass noodles? I like that dish...with glass noodles, of course.
