A proud winner of the Penang Hawker Masters Competition in 2012, this Curry Mee specialist has gained huge attention since then. They started out at Perak Road, right next to Old Town White Coffee, subsequently to Reservoir Garden Air Itam and now, a new shop at The Golden Triangle, Relau. It may be shadowed by those flashy food eateries in the vicinity so do be extra careful when searching for this place. The menu is rather small but covers some of the best local delights such as Penang Curry Mee, Nyonya Lam Mee, Koay Teow Th'ng and Nasi Lemak; with options to have add-ons. Solid staple food that can't go out of fashion, this place is ideal for a quick, inexpensive meal sans the usual coffee shop crowd.
Curry Mee (Rm 5.90/ small)
Nyonya Lam Mee (Rm 5.90/ small)
The signature Penang Curry Mee had all the boxes ticked- skillfully seasoned, creamy yet not too thick and with the quintessential Penang Curry Mee condiments- Cockles, coagulated Pork Blood, curried Squid, Bean Curd and a touch of Torch Ginger. With the smoky, home-made Chili dip, it was pretty decent. The Nyonya Lam Mee was equally delicious, the broth was brimming with flavors. They seemed to be very generous with the Pork Belly (perhaps a little too generous), we love the simplicity of the dish yet how delicate the flavors were, it could be a mix of meat and seafood broth. The Sambal was great but if there was one thing that we could nitpick, it would be their Prawns... for the tiny thumb-sized Prawns, we thought it would be more appropriate if they could de-shell them, it posed a challenge when trying to de-shell them.
