385 Prawning & Thai Restaurant @ Dato Keramat, Georgetown, Penang.

Seafood lovers out there get to enjoy the best of both worlds at one of the new recreational spots in town- 385 Prawning & Thai Restaurant; where you will not only get to do prawn-fishing but also enjoy a sumptuous Thai Seafood meal at the restaurant. Tucked away from the bustling Dato Keramat, 385 Prawning & Thai Restaurant has become one of the latest hit spots in Penang. For Rm 18, fishing enthusiasts can now hone their skills at this facility; any catch within the purchased time frame belongs to the fisher. We are no fishing devotee and naturally, the Thai restaurant becomes our focus. Only opens for dinner, the restaurant does not offer an extensive menu but with the signature dishes, it is more than good enough to please any diners with stubborn Thai palate. Food is competitively priced and the taste does not disappoint; it can be a good spot for a family dinner.

Tom Yum Seafood (Rm 28/ small)

Tiger Prawn Claypot Glass Noodles (Rm 20/ small)

Papaya Salad (Rm 12/ small)

Pad Thai (Rm 10/ small)

Tab Tim Krob (Rm 4)

Whet up the appetite with the Papaya Salad, a beautiful concoction of raw Papaya, Long Beans, Carrots, Tomato, crushed toasted Peanuts, dried Shrimp, Chilies and some very appetizing Thai Salad dressing... flavors were perfectly balanced- sweet and sour with a gentle Chili kick. The best seller- Tom Yum Seafood did not disappoint either. The broth was creamy and rich, the sweetness was probably bolder but overall, it was quite well-balanced and the seafood sweetness can be discerned.

The Tiger Prawn Claypot Glass Noodles was a little sweeter than expected. There were plenty of Black Peppercorns in the dish so it was basically packed with the smoky Black Pepper essence. But the real draw was the Tiger Prawns... deliciously plump and succulent. Instead of Rice, we had Pad Thai. For Rm 10, the serving portion could easily serve 2 diners. While we did not think it was outstanding, it was an okay Pad Thai. The smokiness (wok hei) and spiciness can be stronger, though other elements were well taken care of. We ended the meal with Tab Tim Krob, a famous Water Chestnut-Jackfruit dessert from Thailand.

  1. Give me Thai, anytime! Did you try "prawning"? Caught any?

  2. I wonder how difficult/easy this praw-fishing activity? Does it depends on skill or just pure luck? Just curious :P
