K.K. Dim Sum Garden (佳佳点心苑) @ Air Hitam, Penang.

Hailed by many as one of the best local longtime fixture for Dim Sum in the neighborhood of Farlim/ Air Hitam, K.K. Dim Sum Garden (佳佳点心苑) is usually packed with extended families, neighborhood regular patrons and adventurous foodies during peak hours (8 am to 11 am) in the weekends. It has the classic Malaysian Dim Sum joint setting- with simple tables and chairs being set up by the road side while the aged servers pushing the Dim Sum carts or carrying the Dim Sum baskets around. K.K is said to be one of the earliest Dim Sum joints in the neighborhood and its opening can be traced back to at least a decade ago. Do not expect a big variety but some straight-forward, unassuming timeless but solid Dim Sum favorites with one or two unique in-house specialties.

Wan Ton Mee (Rm 5.60)

Steamed Fish Balls (Rm 5)

Fried Fish Balls and Har Kaw (Rm 3.60 each)

Egg Tarts (Rm 3.00 each)

Fried Prawn Rolls (Rm 5)

Siew Mai (Rm 3.60 each)

Hong Kong styled Chee Cheong Fun (Rm 5)

Char Siew Bun (Rm 2.50/ each)

Popular classics are the steamed Fish Balls topped with a piece of Fish, Har Kaw (Prawn Dumplings), Siew Mai (Pork Dumplings), Hong Kong styled Chee Cheong Fun and Char Siew Bun. While nothing exceeds our expectations, nothing disappoints either. The classics are definitely the safest bets. The Portuguese Tarts with a spin (more like fusion Egg Tarts) were delicious though, they possessed a very bold buttery fragrant with slightly sweetened custard-filling, pastry skin was thin and most flaky. These however, are only available on weekends.

Don't miss the Wan Ton Mee with home-made Char Siew (barbecued Pork), this is one of dishes commonly ordered by most tables. The noodles were springy and beautifully dressed in a shiny, savory-sweet Dark Soy sauce with a touch of Pork Lard and jeweled with thick cuts of barbecued Pork. The Pork had the perfect ratio of meat to pockets of fats, expertly grilled to perfection. It was good on its own but even better with a traditional touch- pickled Chilies. It was an unexpected encounter but certainly pleasant one.

  1. I think I commented on one of your other recent posts that it was time for me to eat some more dim sum. I still haven't got round to it and here's another reminder. ;-)
