Le Carbonara @ Arena Curve, Bayan Baru, Penang.

More options for the Muslim diners in Bayan Baru area- Le Carbonara is a newly opened Western-Italian restaurant that offers Italian-inspired Western dishes (run by Muslim Chef). The place looks simple and the interior setting is basic; we were really concerned if our calories will be wasted. But we were glad that everything turned out well; in fact, Le Carbonara sets the bar high. Prices may not seem wallet-friendly at first glance but if you were to check out carefully, they offer some uncommon dishes (like Ravioli) at acceptable rates. The budget-watcher or lunch-crowd may watch out for their Set Lunch, economically priced at Rm 20.90 nett, it includes a serving of Soup, Main, Dessert as well as a drink. While the dishes did not disappoint, it did take them a while to serve our orders. Those who are in a rush may wish to have their dishes pre-ordered to avoid disappointment. Ravioli Con Salmone (Rm 27)

Spaghetti Aglio Olio [Set Lunch/ Rm 20.90]

Chicken Chop [Set Lunch/ Rm 20.90]

Le Carbonara's Set Lunch provides good return in value. It includes a starter (soup), main, dessert and a drink. There were two options (for mains) on our visit- Aglio Olio and Chicken Chop. They certainly know their Aglio Olio well, the texture was amazing (al-dente) and the flavors were impressive (reasonably seasoned with earthy Mushroom aroma and garlicky-spiced). The Chicken Chop was however, a lackluster. It was disappointingly average- pan fried Chicken thigh and served with Black Pepper sauce, Fries and Coleslaw. Also, the portion was too small (not complaining for that price though, just a general-neutral statement).

The bomb of the day was Ravioli Con Salmone- a small chunk Salmon sheathed under a thin layer of Pasta sheet, presented in the form of dumpling and served over a thick, creamy Tomato-infused cream sauce. The sauce was addictive, the acidity of the Tomato cuts through the creaminess and with the parsley introduced, it was multi-dimensional. For Rm 27 (8 Raviolis)... it certainly did not come cheap but we were glad that they have delivered the quality.
