Cook Idea Sa Ho Fen is a big name at Chai Leng Park.... and has a huge facade too. It is known to serve some of the best, classic and unfussy Ipohan-influenced Hor Fun dishes. Seats were almost filled up as early as 9 am; the Hor Fun specialist also offers deboned Chicken, blanched Bean Sprouts to complete the set of the Ipoh Nga-Choy-Kai/ Kai-See Hor Fun (Ipoh-Bean Sprout Chicken with Hor Fun). There's no need to stumble over a menu- grab all the quintessential dishes and you are good to go. Food selection aside, the place is well-maintained with clean floors and bright space.... definitely a comfortable place to have a casual meal with family or friends.
Ho Fen Soup (Rm 4.10/ small)
Chicken with Soy Sauce (Rm 3.50/ small)
Prawn Wan Ton Soup (Rm 3.50/ small)
Pickled Fo Shou Gua/ Buddha's Hand Gourd (Rm 2.40/ small)
The signature Hor Fun soup was perfectly pleasantly, the rice noodles were silky smooth and the broth packed a flavorful punch... even more delicate when paired with the touch of Prawn Oil, for the sweet-smoky crustacean flavor. The Chicken was equally good, though priced on the higher side, the real draw was the mashed Ginger dip (in lieu of the conventional Chicken Rice chili sauce), a dip that truly displays the Cantonese element.
The Wan Ton dumplings were not disappointing either but the skin could be smoother, though we love the bouncy shrimp filling. We washed down with a serving of the pickled Fo Shou Gua, a innovative crunchy concoction of the Buddha's Hand Gourd with preserved plum; as well as a serving of Pumpkin Barley drink.

Prawn wanton looks good but the small does look rather small.
