Bouncy Cafe and Food @ Jalan Mahsuri, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Bayan Lepas might not be a famous area when it comes Italian-style fare but the Italian game is getting stronger. Bouncy Food first started as a burger joint but has since started to introduce more Italian-inspired delights to the menu. The cafe is not new and perhaps, have been around for more than 6 months; those who are working around the industrial zone would not be new to the name (it can be found near to the traffic light in front of Kampung Jawa/ same row as 888 Hokkien Mee). The menu gets a little upgrade recently with the introduction of some uncommonly seen (in Penang) Italian classics like Tagliatelle and Gnocchi. A place worth-exploring particularly for Pasta lovers.

Blue Cheese Gnocchi (Rm 27)

The traditional Italian favorites are all home-made, one of the more notable ones would be the Tagliatelle Al Ragu... long strips of Ribbon Pasta cooked with Tomato-based meat sauce. We love the al-dente texture but thought the dish was a little flat in flavors. The acidity could be bolder and more Tomatoey, the supposedly boozy Red Wine did not shine in the sauce either. It lacked the punch but as far as texture was concerned, it certainly aced. The adventurous may try a more exquisite dish- Blue Cheese Gnocchi, well-coated with the thick, pungent Blue Cheese sauce. The flavor might be too strong and repulsive for some but those with trained palate would know how appreciate the exquisite flavor. The texture of the Gnocchi however, could be chewier; they were a little too soft to our liking. Also, the dish was flat and monotonous, it would be better with some layers of dimension introduced to spice things up. It seems impossible for one to finish the dish entirely on his/her own. Smokey Bacon Carbonara was on the other hand, disappointingly average. From what we were told (by my partners in crime), the Pork Burger fared better (in terms of both taste and value-for-money).
