Yu Shi Tang Fod & Beverage (御食堂) @ Burmah Road, Pulau Tikus, Penang.

Staple for the working class heroes- Economy Rice has just got an upgrade here at Yu Shi Tang. Presentation is top notch... food does look more delicious with better presentation no? The offering here looks homey but the prices are very friendly to the wallet. From Rm 7.90 and above, diners are assured of a tummy-filling meal with at least two types of rice dishes. Despite of the discounted price, the comfort-level of the dining hall is not compromised. The place is clean and fully air-conditioned with tables well-spaced to ensure comfort. Food quality's slightly above average but not marvelous for us to go all out for them. Yu Shi Tang is housed in the same building as Burmahtel at Burmah Road, Pulau Tikus.

From the range of dishes available, we had their Rosemary Chicken, Braised Tofu and Stir Fried Winged Beans. The Rosemary Chicken was a little disappointing- weak in seasoning and slightly dry in texture. Braised Tofu and Stir Fried Winged Beans were decent but not outstanding; as though we were having some orders from the common-conventional Economy Rice stall.

Tummy fillers were Fried Rice and Stir Fried Yee Foo Mee with Ham. The former was good, albeit slightly greasy, the wok hei stood out... even better with the smoky-savory Bacon bits. Stir Fired Yee Foo Mee with Ham was equally tasty, the noodles were expertly cooked with spot-on seasoning. The portion was hearty and they were very generous with the crunchy greens; best served with their home-made Sambal.

For every order of their main, top up Rm 1 for free flow of home-made Drinks (Herbal Tea or Loh Han Guo) and unlimited refills of Soup.
