Tim Ho Wan Dim Sum Malaysia (添好運) @ Mid Valley City, Kuala Lumpur.

One of the much lauded Michelin Starred Dim Sum brands- Tim Ho Wan, has certainly stirred up the interest of many Dim Sum aficionados since its opening in 2014. Relentless queues can still be spotted at all branches across the nation. The highly boasted One-Starred Michelin branch has a standardized interior decor across all branches; the vibe is a reminiscent of those busy and fast-moving Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng- noisy, narrowly spaced seating and simple furniture. It was more of a fast-food joint in lieu of a upscale Dim Sum restaurant. Food was alright for novelty experience but given the hefty price tags and unpleasant dining experience, we have no reasons to call for a second visit.

Steamed Beef Balls with Bean Curd Skin/ 陈皮牛肉球 (Rm 8.30)

Congee with Lean Pork and Century Egg/ 金银蛋瘦肉粥 (Rm 10.50)

Pork Dumplings with Pork/ 鲜虾烧卖皇 (Rm 11.50)

Prawn Dumplings/ 晶莹鲜虾饺 (Rm 12.50)

Baked Bun with Barbecue Pork/ 酥皮焗叉烧包 (Rm 11.50)

SIGN 5 Treasures/ 龙凤酿五宝 (Rm 12.50)

Rice with Chicken Sausage and Mushroom/ 腊肠北菇鸡饭 (Rm 12.50)

Vermicelli Rolls with Sweet Sauce and Sesame Paste/ 大排档肠粉 (Rm 8.30)

Probably the most glorious item by Tim Ho Wan is the Baked Bun with BBQ Pork- sweet and savory Pork filling encased in a crusty sweet Baked Bun akin to Hong Kong styled Polo Bun; somewhat unique as compared to those dense, fluffed Steamed Buns. Another rare offering- Steamed Beef Balls with Bean Curd Skin, the flavor was good with a citrusy touch from Dried Mandarin Peel but the texture was too soft and mushy to our liking. Quintessential Dim Sum items like Siew Mai and Har Kao were delicious but for that price tag, we could definitely find something similar here in Penang.

To fill our tummies, we had Steamed Chicken Rice and Chee Cheong Fun; the former choice was standard-average though we agreed that the Chicken was well-cooked to the right texture but the ratio of Rice to Chicken was somewhat odd... more Chickens or Mushrooms could be added in our opinion. We enjoyed the Chee Cheong Fun dressed with Sesame Paste, the introduction of premium Soy Sauce gives a layer of sweet-savory touch to the dish while the Sesame Paste provides the fragrance to the dish. Not too shabby... for a change.
