Joyeux Cafe @ Nagore Road, Georgetown, Penang.

A new cafe along Nagore Road (next to Mon Delice Patisserie)- Joyuex Cafe has its own personalities- it may not be as trendy as compared to other cafes in town. The interior of the cafe is rather simple, with no eclectic furniture nor heavy elements in decorations. It gives you the feeling that this is an intimate cafe in your neighborhood. On the menu, it could be a little limited currently (they are still new) but they do offer a few dishes starting from breakfast to lunch and dinner (yes, desserts too). Prices may be a little steeper (small portion anyway) as compared to other cafes but we were very happy with the outstanding quality and remarkable flavors. However, do note that the cafe has limited seating, advance reservation is recommended if you are coming in a group.

Their hearty French Toast (Rm 9.90) is definitely a note-worthy choice. It comes with two thick slices of soft and pillowy bread beautifully coated with egg. I thought the dish was a little greasy from the glistering glance but it turned out to be the maple syrup and it was not greasy nor heavy on the palate. The dollop of Chantilly Cream was good, so light and smooth that it complements the French Toast perfectly, granting it a smoother and creamier texture. The Pineapple Compote, on the other hand, did not impress us. It seems and tastes like canned Pineapple, but with an extra touch of Cinnamon flavor; although not bad but could be better with other options.

Weight-watcher would be glad to know that they offer good Caesar Salad (Rm 14.90) served with pan-seared Chicken and hard-boiled Egg. The fresh greens were generously tossed and coated with their dressing but I thought it may be a little too cheesy for me. The puckered Chicken Breast does not seem attractive to me at first, I thought it would be bland but I was once again proven wrong, it was tender and carefully-marinated with precise flavors. However, I would prefer to have more greens, though some Croutons for the extra crunch and bite would be equally great too.

Sweet ending was yet, another resounding success. We were amazed by the evocative flavors of Creme Caramel (Rm 14.90) which has a distinctively strong Vanilla flavor and velvety smooth in texture, as though it melts in your mouth naturally; and no, it was not saccharine sweet. The Chocolate ice cream, on the other hand, was another great surprise. The flavor was so intense that it feels like you are having real chocolate in your mouth. The mellow bitterness from the Ice Cream could help to cut through the sweetness of Creme Caramel a little nevertheless. As for those with deep pockets, go for their Tiramisu (Rm 24.90), as recommended by their staff, their Tiramisu is uniquely different from the conventional ones (no, I did not try).

Orange Juice (Rm 9.90)
