Vivo Cafe @ Kampung Baru, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Nestled within the building of Vivo (next to Station One Bukit Mertajam), a private entertainment club at Bukit Mertajam; Vivo Cafe has just opened its doors to its customers few weeks back. The cafe is managed and owned by Who's Bryan restaurant, the first branch under Who's Bryan at Bukit Mertajam (in which there are 2 more branches at All Seasons Place Farlim and Ong Yi How Raja Uda). Similarly to its sister restaurant, Vivo Cafe serves Western food mainly, with a few oriental dishes as well as a wide selection of desserts and beverages. With its extensive menu, laid-back ambiance and charming environment, the fully air-conditioned Vivo Cafe is quite the ideal place for a weekend retreat, both for your family and friends. However, the place might not be too accommodating for larger groups, do make sure you call in for reservation should you are planning to visit in a huge gang.

I was not quite impressed with this Sago Coconut Cream (Rm 7.90), well-cooked Sago topped with fresh Strawberry and Jack-Fruit over a lake of Coconut Cream, to be completed with Sugar Syrup. The dish was confusingly genial, in which I would certainly prefer Gula Melaka over the ordinary Sugar Syrup, for the distinctive aroma. The Jack-Fruit had not done much in its aid as well, the flavors did not actually blend in well in my opinion.

On the other hand, their Coconut Panna Cotta (Rm 8.90) came in less wobbly as I would have hoped. It was slightly harder than the usual Panna Cotta but fortunately, the creamy and milky flavor was present but the absence of Coconut aroma left me underwhelmed. I thought the dish was a misnomer, it feels like as though I was having an ordinary Panna Cotta. However, the dessert was okay as a whole, not mind-blowing but still decent.

Berries Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream (Rm 9.90) caught my attention; Berry Compote covered with a Pastry skin and baked till perfection, served with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream. The Berries Compote was perfectly done, sweet with a tangy Berry-sourish tinge and it goes well with the Pastry skin. However, I was not quite convinced with the ersatz Nestle-brand Vanilla Ice Cream, the flavor was too artificial to my liking. The dessert is best shared with others, it could be surfeit for one to finish it entirely.
