Hui Kee (辉记大排档) @ Larut Road, Penang.

It is not too common nor easy to find when it comes to Fish Head Hot Pot or Hu Tao Lor since we do have too much eateries offering this dish in Penang. I did come across a Chu Char stall nearby Larut Road which offers Hu Tao Lor (their signature dish) recently and most importantly, I was attracted by the price. Not limited to Fish Head Hot Pot only, Hui Kee serves some local Chu Char dishes too, as well as Poon Choi/ Basin Feast Dish. It's easy to locate Hui Kee, simply find Royal Hotel or KFC Larut Road, Hui Kee is just beside Royal Hotel and opposite to KFC at Larut Road (behind Penang Plaza). I find most of the dishes here at Hui Kee are priced reasonably and service can be real fast. No reservation is needed for the Fish Head Hot Pot but reservation is required for their Poon Choi.

Fish Head Hot Pot/ Hu Tao Lor (Rm 20), if you opt for better fish, they will be priced accordingly and do check it out with the staff. Being served with Clay pot, the Hot Pot has some Toufu, Deep Fried Fish Head, and some Cabbage. Customers can have the broth refilled as many times as they like. Despite the fact that the broth was simple, but it was the simplicity that makes it at best, with a hint of sweetness. No complaints for this kind of price.

Stir Fried Potato Leaves with Salted Egg Yolk (Rm 8) was one of the best dishes we had that night. The Potato Leaves were perfectly coated with Salted Egg Yolk and they were perfectly cooked till perfection where the leaves still maintained its crunchiness and juiciness. I'd recommend this dish.

Steamed Chicken (Rm 30- Half Bird), I am not sure what the chicken is being called in English but we call it 胡须鸡 here in Penang, its a special breed of chicken where it has a very unique aroma and the meat is more tender and juicier. Taste-wise, I have no complaints since the chicken was reasonably seasoned and it was flavorful to my liking. The chicken can be further complemented by their special home-made sauce too, which consisted of chopped ginger and spring onions. However, the chicken was slightly overcooked and the texture tends to be a bit rough, otherwise, it'll be a perfect dish.
