Beef Koay Teow Soup @ Batu Lanchang, Penang.

If someone were to ask me, in which corner of Penang can we find a decent Beef Koay Teow Soup, I would definitely recommend this place, I have been their regular customer since my first visit back to few months ago. Although the place does not possess a good ambiance, and its just like any other hawker centers but you certainly want to try this Beef Koay Teow Soup out if you happened to be a fan of Beef Koay Teow. Its located at Jalan Tan Sri Teh Hwe Lim, same row as Lam Wah Ee hospital and right next to Eve bakery, the name of the hawker center is New B Garden Cafe. They do not have a specific name for the Beef Koay Teow Soup in english, but they do have a Chinese name (for those who can read Chinese)- 鑑记牛肉粿条. What I adore most is definitely their broth, not too thick nor diluted, just perfect for me. One thing I like about this stall over Kang Beef House is that they do not sprinkle or include some pork lard into the soup, which makes the soup too oily for me. No doubt, pork lard enhances certain unique flavor but I find it too oily and unhealthy too.

The light broth of the Beef Koay Teow Soup (Small for Rm7, Large for Rm10) was very flavorful and it suits my taste buds perfectly. Every single sip of the soup brings very long after taste and it feels so homely to me. Just take a look at those generously added Parsley and deep fried shallots. Parsley is the soul of Beef Noodles, no perfect Beef Koay Teow can escape without the adding of Parsley. Apart from that, their ingredients were generously added as well, namely the organs, sliced beef, bouncy beef meat balls and even some sweet bean sprouts. Their sliced beef (the meat) was not too tender in my opinion and they could need some improvements on that, but their beef meat ball is a must-try in my opinion, I just love how bouncy and springy the texture is and it works well with their home made chili sauce. I have always asked to mix Koay Teow (rice cake strips) and Yellow Noodles to get the better texture. Highly recommended.

Well, I'd say their chili sauce is a must-try too, but do try it out with caution as they were extremely hot and spicy according to past experiences. This condiment works well with the beef meat balls, just love how they work with each other.
