Little Oasis, The Fusion Kitchen @ Prangin Mall, Penang.

Little Oasis found in Prangin Mall Penang.....sounds like a place where I can rest my feet after many hours of shopping at the area. Situated at third floor of Prangin Mall, it serves Fusion cuisine where they serve Western food, Local Delights, Japanese bento at the same time. The restaurant is quite small, hence, the spaces between tables and chairs are quite limited. Small crowd of patrons can be seen especially during lunch hours on weekends, probably due to the set meals offered here. With an additional Rm4 (to be added to the price of your chosen main course), you can get yourself a set lunch with a main course, a soup of the day, a cup of icy cold drink and ice cream as your dessert. Food choices-wise, was okay and as for drinks/dessert, they have more than enough to quench your thirst. It takes unusually long time for them to serve the food, even a precooked mushroom soup.

Cream of Mushroom Soup (included in the set), the mushroom soup was pretty impressive, the aftertaste was so strong and the texture was smooth and creamy as well. As for the toasted garlic bread, they were as good as the mushroom soup. Reasonably buttered and seasoned with herbs, the aromatic fragrance of the garlic and butter were successfully carried out.

Stir Fried Spaghetti Set (ala carte price Rm14.90, set meal price Rm18.90). It tasted like Aglio Olio pasta but it lacks of the garlic flavor. Anyway, brilliantly used the Italian mixed dried herbs to fry with the spaghetti, it has a very strong irresistible strong aroma. Not to forget the generous amount of seafood used, there were quite a lot of squid, capsicum, onions, fried fish fillet and two pieces of shrimps. The portion was big enough for a big eater like me. Recommended.

Grill Fish in Butter Sauce (ala carte price Rm9.90, set meal price Rm13.90). It comes with two side dishes, mashed potatoes and coleslaw. The fish was grilled till perfection and was very tender. However, the strong aroma of the butter sauce just does not suit my taste buds well, probably due to the oily and greasiness of the butter sauce. The portion was okay but it is not recommended for big eaters.

As mentioned earlier, a cup of icy cold drink and a scoop of ice cream will be included in the set meal. Choose from green tea, peach tea and ice lemon tea for the drinks and vanilla, chocolate, mint or strawberry flavor for the ice cream.

Chicken Katsu Bento (Rm16.90). It comes in a whole set which includes a cup of drink (choose from green tea, peach tea or ice lemon tea) and a bowl of hot miso soup. Basically the chicken katsu was no different than the ordinary deep fried chicken chop. The deep fried chicken was then topped with a Japanese sweet shoyu (soya sauce). The white rice provided was believed to be local rice (not Japanese rice). It comes with coleslaw and two pieces of green apples. The serving of the green apples was wrong to me, as in the green apples oxidizes easily in a short period of time. By the time we finished the meal, the apples do not seem appealing anymore.
