Asian BBQ @ Prangin Mall, Penang.

There was this restaurant opened two weeks ago on 4th floor, Prangin Mall (previously Popular Book Store), it caught my attention since obviously it serves steamboat (I am a steamboat fan for your information). I roughly glanced through the menu and swore that I will definitely try this out someday and here am I today. Asian BBQ offers a few set meals, along with some side dishes/ingredients for the steamboat. There will be two options, first, you can opt to pick the soup version together with their specific set (personal set - Rm 19.80), OR you can opt to pick the grill/soup version with two different sets, offering pork (Rm 9.80) and beef (Rm 12.80). Prices shown are for personal set only. There are still some supreme set or family set for 2-3 person and above.

The set we ordered was Supreme Beef Set (Rm 22.80), it comes with 2 bowls of white rice too. I must praise the sauce given too. It tasted abit sweet and sourish with strong flavour of garlic and lemon grass. Some Thai fish sauce was added too I believe. It really works well with meat, especially beef. I actually asked for 4 extra portions as I cant stop myself from dipping into this sauce.

Something that I think worth mentioning was the raw pork lard. They gave it to us before we get our hands on the beef. I was told by the staff that we actually can put the pork lard on top of the grilling pan and let it dissolve slowly just to let the pork lard's flavour immerse into our beef. For those who do not favour pork lard, you can opt to put butter instead. Just ask from the waitress and they will provide you butter.

The grilling pan with soup surrounding it. You can place the meat on top of the grilling pan to have them charred or you can boil them under the soup. Something very new and fresh to me.

The Supreme Beef Set (Rm 22.80), as what you can see, there were a lot of beef slices given to us, so do some Japanese noodles (udon), cabbage, carrots and beef meat balls etc. Although it doesn't look very promising at it's first look, but trust me, you will be amazed after you grilled those beef.

The beef was very fresh and tender, just leave them on the grilling pan and wait until its fully cooked. Soup can be poured onto it too, just to let the beef absorbs the essence and the flavour of the soup. The beef is best served with the sauce provided. However, I was pretty disappointed with the beef balls. They weren't that springy as I thought they would be. I would prefer beef balls with springy texture.

Well obviously you are not going to grill those cabbage, you will need to boil them instead. The soup provided was some herbal soup. Make sure you cook those cabbage first before those Udon as you might want to extract the natural sweetness from the vegetables first.

Aside from the set meal, we had this extra portion of fish balls as well (Rm 3.80). Nothing special just that I would prefer fish balls while I am having steamboat.

The drinks were rather pricey if you ask me. So we had the cheapest instead (Chinese tea cold - Rm 1.20; green tea cold -Rm 2.20).
