Probably the only restaurant specializing in offering Dragon Tiger Grouper 龙虎斑, Bene Seafood Restaurant 龙蒸虎焖 at The Promenade (Bayan Baru) has a menu dedicated entirely to this grouper fish. The Chinese restaurant does not have any impressive setting but just a down-to-earth restaurant setting with basic tables and chairs... just like any Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. On the menu- it apart from the Chinese stir fry dishes (expect to find the usual Zhu Char fare here), it offers an array of Noodle dishes as well. The prices are however, unexpectedly affordable but don't expect the serving portion to be very big. Definitely a worth-checking out restaurant, especially for family gatherings over a meal.
We went for their noodle dishes- the Steamed Hor Fun with Dragon Tiger Grouper was alright- the fish meat was fresh and firm but the Hor Fun could be smoother. The soy sauce was good though. The Crispy Noodles with Dragon Tiger Grouper and Prawns was better as compared to the earlier dish, the gravy was beautifully cooked; when eaten with their Sambal, the combo was amazing. We also had a side order of Steamed Stingray with Teo Chew Style Sauce. For Rm 20, we had a big piece of Stingray with thick, juicy meat served over sour-spicy Teo Chew sauce. We were glad that the fish was fresh and the meat was firm, it worked well with the sauce though we would prefer the Teo Chew sauce to carry more acidity. A contenting meal for the 2 of us to share.
