96 Backlane Cafe 吹水铺 @ Pulau Tikus, Penang.

96 Backlane Cafe 吹水铺 is probably the only cafe in town that requires its customers to enter from the back alley but this unique entrance has certainly added a mysterious touch to the place. Slide the door open and you will find yourself in a snug, small little space with some tables and chairs. The interior decor seeks to portray an office with plenty of stationery. The place is unlikely to be able to accommodate big groups though. On the food offering, it has a small menu that offers a few noodle choices and some Hainanese Kaya-Butter Toasts. The prices are however, quite steep for the serving portion.

Wan Ton Noodle- (Rm 15.90/ Dry)

Kappa Soup (Rm 16.90)

Cham C (Rm 4.50/ Iced)

One of their signature dishes- Kappa Soup... is a Pan Mee-like noodle dish served in a broth cooked with Clams and topped with Cheese as well as a spicy touch (a splash of Chili flakes). The concoction was somewhat special- nothing particularly distinctive. The seafood sweetness from the Claims was not apparent or perhaps, overshadowed by the addition of Cheese. To be frank, we thought it was overly salty to our liking. Wan Ton Noodle was not any better, it was disappointingly average. Though the noodle texture was different than the traditional Wan Ton Mee, the flavor combo did not win us over. For Rm 15.90, we thought it was overpriced.
