U-Village 又一村香港茶餐厅 @ Sentral Jaya, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

A popular Hong Kong food chain from central region- U Village 又一村香港茶餐厅 opened its first northern branch at Sentral Jaya, Bukit Mertajam... offering the foodies in the neighborhood a wide range of Hong Kong delights and Cantonese dishes. The menu is big and has a plethora of Hong Kong-inspired dishes- from the common thick Toast to Dim Sum dishes, Wan Ton Noodles, roasted meat and stir fries dishes; oddly, there is no sign of Hong Kong Egg Tarts and Eggettes though. Price points are of average but given that the slew of options, this place is suitable for any casual family eat outs.

Herbal Chicken in Bucket (Rm 29/ half bird)

One of its best sellers- the Fresh Prawn Wan Ton Soup was something out of the ordinary.... noodle-wise speaking. The noodles were a little different, less al-dente but sans the unpleasant lye water flavor. Not a fan of the noodles but the Wan Tons were plump and meaty... with each filled with a juicy Shrimp in it. The soup was alright... but definitely nothing to shout over. Stir Fried Eggs with Sharkfin Noodles on the other hand, fared better than the Wan Ton Noodles. Yee Foo Noodles were used in this case... with a generous amount of stir fried Eggs; the wok-hei was apparent and the seasoning was spot on. The overall flavor combo was very good and addictive. We enjoyed this dish more than the earlier one. For sharing, we had Herbal Chicken in Bucket... which was cooked using free range Chicken. The meat was tougher than expected but the flavor was good... with a bold herbal essence. We would have enjoyed it more if the Chicken was more tender.
