Labu Cafe @ Transfer Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Opened in late November 2019, Labu Cafe is one of the latest Muslim-friendly cafes in town; the menu comprises of a mix of both local delights and Western dishes (a few Pasta choices). The main items that made up the menu are Malay-dishes... familiar ones like Mee Udang, Nasi Ayam Penyet, Koay Teow Kerang etc. Apart from the mains, the place has a display counter for freshly baked Kuih and a small dessert menu (on daily rotation basis). The cafe at Transfer Road (next to the junction of Kedah Road and Transfer Road) may be a little small but the place is beautifully decorated and it feels cozy and comfortable to dine-in there (fully air-conditioned). If you must know, the prices are very budget-friendly... with generous serving portion.

While there are set packages that you can choose- with pre-fixed main course choices, desserts and drinks; we had the more flexible Aurora Set instead... with any main course ordered, there will be complimentary drink and dessert (no Kuih though). We had both Mee Udang and Bihun Soup Daging (Beef); both were served in a huge portion. The Mee Udang was served with 4 mid-sized Prawns, the gravy was thick and carried a mild but discernible sweetness. The spicy-note can be tasted but slightly too mild for us. The texture of the noodles was nicely controlled, overall, we thought it was a decent Mee Udang. The Bihun Soup Daging on the other hand, was equally palatable. The broth was comforting, the dish somehow reminded us of the Vietnamese Pho. Instead of Beef slices, Beef meat in small chunks was used... something that everyone can eat on a regular basis (Chicken is available if you prefer so).
