Ramen Wafu 拉面和风 @ Elit Avenue, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Another restaurant under the Wafu group (read my review on Sushi Wafu here) is Ramen Wafu; unlike its sister restaurant- Sushi Wafu and like its name, the restaurant specializes in offering Japanese Ramen. The menu is quite Ramen-focused, with additional offering like Japanese Don Rice and a small Sushi menu. Note-worthy is its 6-in-1 Wafu Set, which could potentially stretch your Ringgit further. Diners get to enjoy 6 different items by paying a little more- a Ramen dish, refillable beverage (Green Tea or Ice Lemon Tea), refillable Ice Cream, Fruits, Chawanmushi and a selection of a side dish. The restaurant is well-spaced and the interior decor is pretty much like a standard Japanese restaurant. If you do enjoy Japanese Ramen, give this place a try.

Miso Butter Yasai Ramen Set (Rm 23.80)

Volcano Ramen Set (Rm 26.80)

Salmon Sushi (Rm 2.80) and Ebiko Gunkan (Rm 1.80)

We had both Miso Butter Yasai Ramen and Volcano Ramen, we thought the latter option fared better than the earlier choice. The Miso Butter Yasai Ramen was boldly seasoned with a small piece of Butter. The Butter had not done much in its aid, the buttery fragrance could not be discerned. In fact, the earthiness of the Mushrooms was vying for attention and with the Miso, it was quite an awkward combination. We would prefer refreshing-crunchy type of vegetables like Cabbage in lieu of earthy Mushrooms. Noodle-wise, the texture was nicely controlled... slightly al-dente and not overly cooked. The Volcano Ramen broth had a bolder meaty notes but with the bed of Chili paste added, the broth was multi-dimensional with a cleaner taste (comparing to the Miso Butter Yasai Ramen). Each order of the set comes with a side dish of diner's choice. For us, we had Saba Teriyaki and Gyoza... the portion was generous and definitely provides great value for money. I'll skip on the Sushi, not worthy to be mentioned.
