Mykori Kakigori @ D' Piazza Mall, Bayan Baru, Penang.

One of the well-known dessert brands- Mykori Kakigori, has chosen Penang's D' Piazza Mall to open its 30th branch in the nation. Established in 2016, the brand has widely expanded in few years... with many branches across the country. The brand boasts over its Japanese shaved Ice dessert (otherwise known as Kakigori) as well other sweet treats incorporating fresh fruits and ice creams. The menu features around 20 types of Kakigori with countless combinations of other sweet treats. Prices are most affordable but do expect a bigger crowd especially during its grand opening period. The branch at D' Piazza can be found right in front of the D' Piazza Condominium entrance (not the side facing the main road). It is note-worthy that Mykori is a Muslim-friendly cafe.

Melon Kakigori (Rm 26)

Strawberry Cheesecake Kakigori (Rm 14/ mini)

Matcha Adzuki Toast (Rm 17.50)

If you are into fresh fruits, there are 3 options for you- Honeydew, Watermelon and Melon. We had the latter choice and it was topped with a chock-full of fresh Melon, sprinkles of toasted Almond Chips as well as some evaporated Milk. The Melon was not as sweet as we would have hoped but the shaved Ice was quite fine and spot on. However, we thought the flavoring was a little artificial for the Melon Kakigori... extra points for the crispy Almond chips and the fact that it was not saccharine sweet.

Comparing to the Strawberry Cheesecake Kakigori, we would definitely this over the Melon Kakigori. The Strawberry sauce was the soul to the shaved ice... delicately flavored but expertly sweetened with a hint of fruitiness. The Cheesecake was a little scanty but the overall combo was quite good.

While we understood that Kakigori is their main forte but we did not expect the Matcha Adzuki Toast to be such a disappointment. The Toast was a tad too dry to our liking and the texture was rocky hard. It lacked the alluring buttery fragrance and not to mention... the Adzuki Beans were missing. Ice Creams were okay but nothing out of the ordinary. Skip the Toast and just go straight to the Kakigori.
