CJ's Nasi Lemak @ Sungai Dua, Penang.

The folks at Sungai Dua would not be happy with one of their best-kept secrets being unveiled; CJ's Nasi Lemak is well-hidden in one of the narrow alleys along Lorong Sungai Dua (on the way to the main entrance of JPJ Batu Uban) but those who are in the know would not be new to the name. The proprietor was running the business nearby but has since relocated to the present location... his house. Though it only sells Nasi Lemak, there are plenty of condiments to be chosen; subject to his supplier, the condiments vary on a daily basis. The lack of proper setup makes this place a little challenging for dining-in so it's more of a take-away outlet in lieu of dine-in place. Interesting variety, authentic flavors, wallet-friendly prices.... are some of the reasons why you should give it a try. From Pesta Sungai Dua, keep driving and turn into Lorong Sungai Dua; on your right (after a short drive), look for the alley with the most possible turning, drive straight until the end and you will find CJ's Nasi Lemak (it is right next to the river).

Nasi Lemak (Rm 3/ packet)

Curry Prawns (Rm 3 each)

Curry Beef (Rm 3/ piece)

Every basic order of the Nasi Lemak consists of a generous portion of fragrant Rice, a spoonful of home-made Sambal, a piece of Fried Chicken Meat, a piece of Fried Fish, a quarter of Hard Boiled Egg and a choice of Deep Fried Anchovies or Salted Fish Curry.

The fragrant Rice was nicely cooked, at least we could detect the hint of creaminess and the alluring Coconut Milk. The home-made Sambal was equally nice, though not as spicy as we would have hoped, the powerful punch of the Herbs and Spices gave a good lift to the fragrant rice. The combination was perfect, our only gripe was the lack of sliced Cucumber... for the extra crunch.

Look out for the seasonal items. The Curry Prawns we had were beyond amazing, not only they were fresh, the curry was a burst of flavors... amazingly thick and rich. Other than rice, it could go very well with soft-pillowy bread.
