Matcho Cafe @ Noordin Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Barely a week old, Matcho Cafe is an exceptional-odd one, not only that it occupies first floor of a vacant shop, the name (which sounds like Macho) is contrary to the femininity of the place. Pink is obviously the favorite color here- from the signage to the wall... even its signature dish ("Pink Toast"). But the quirky atmosphere has a strangely welcoming vibe, probably due to the well-arranged plants and neat-tidy setting. The soft launch menu is small, featuring some Toasts and Sandwiches; not exactly a place for a proper meal but more than decent enough for a casual snack or gathering.

Pink Toast (Rm 17)

Grilled Cheese (Rm 13)

The Pink Toast is one of Matcho Cafe's proudest creation but it does has its creative touch... the pink cotton candy, well at least it justifies the name. On the Toast, it was something like French Toast (coated with Egg) and served with a scoop of Ice Cream (with a choice of Matcha, Vanila, Chocolate etc) and Strawberries. The Toast was soft and fluffy while the Ice Cream was delicious... at least it did not feel like an ersatz Ice Cream from some unknown cheap brand or trying to kill the bread with loads of Honey. Everything was well-measured, but could be a little overpriced for that portion.

For savory, we had Grilled Cheese... and Fries. Diners will be asked if they prefer Ketchup or Chili sauce, not too sure the reason why they could not provide both, probably cutting down the cost since they are selling at a mere Rm 13. It was pretty standard but at least the stretchy melted Cheese can be seen, to top it up, Matcho Cafe added a piece of Ham too. Not exactly helping the dish but I suppose we can live with that. The Fries were great though.
