Sous Vide Urban Cafe @ New World Park, Georgetown, Penang.

The newly opened Sous Vide Urban Cafe at New World Park is probably one of the cafes with most shareholders, it uses the concept crowdfunding and provides a community space for its guests/ members to mingle/ dine-in. There are small function rooms available to host meetings or gatherings either. The name- Sous Vide sure rings a bell, while most items on the menu are Sous Vide related; not all dishes are cooked using that method. Probably in soft-launch period, the menu is fairly small and there are plenty of rooms for improvements as far as food quality is concerned.

63 Degree Egg (Rm 18)

Quattro Funghi Bacon Aglio Olio (Rm 18)

While I was excited to try the seemingly perfect-poached Egg, I was taken aback by the sliver of Smoked Salmon and thick, hard Baguette instead of soft, fluffy English Muffins. The flavor-combination was of course safe but the undesirable texture of the Baguette ruined the overall experience, especially when cutting the Baguette becomes a strenuous activity.

The disappointment did not stop there. The Quattro Funghi Bacon Aglio Olio was supposedly one of the best-sellers in Sous Vide Urban Cafe. But it went wrong in many ways. The Spaghetti was overcooked, though not slouchy but far from being al-dente. It was over seasoned (with Salt) as well, condiments like pickled Olives, Capers, Sundried Tomatoes and Bacon were all heavily salted... too salty that I had to give up on this dish (after a few bites). The relief was the sous-vide Egg, though had not done much in its aid in this dish.

  1. I love New World but this is that side of the place, not the hawker stalls. Never tried any of the eateries there - was looking at a nyonya restaurant there but did not try, dunno if it is still there.

  3. Their service is so bad! I've been there once and the food came out slow. I ordered the Sous Vide Salmon, Aglio Olio and a tomato soup. Guess what happened, my salmon came after almost 15 mins, ok fine, but only the fish is lukewarm. Aglio Olio took more than 30 mins to serve, why? We checked on the soup and the waitress said SHE FORGOT TO INPUT THE SOUP, fine, it took 10 mins for the soup to come and 5 mins later, they took a plate of aglio olio to the next table which they just arrived for about 5 to 10 mins. We asked for it and the waitress said still cooking? And guess what, the bread has mole on it! We definitely will not be going back anymore.
