GK Pho- Original Vietnamese Noodle Soup @ Arena Curve, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

For a hearty, inexpensive bowl of Vietnamese Pho, make your way to Arena Curve, the new business-commercial center right next to Olive Tree Hotel. GK Pho might not be new to some, it was previously housed in a hawker center nearby but has since moved to this new shop at Arena Curve. GK Pho is on its own now, the entire place is dedicated to serving this delicate Vietnamese noodles with a couple of sides (Salad and Spring Rolls). Price-points are modest and it is seen as one of the pulling factors for the factory workers nearby but foods are not as authentic as we would have hoped. Seating is limited so make sure to be there early to avoid disappointments. GK Pho is few doors away from Yisu Vegetarian, facing the Sunway Tunas properties.

Pho Ga/ Dry Chicken Noodle (Rm 5/ regular)

Probably we set the bar too high and we'd expect the same Vietnamese standard to GK Pho but the Vietnamese Noodle did not come with a basket of Herbs. Instead, some of them were added to the soup. The meat broth was delicious, with a discernible mellow meatiness to it but it was not quite apparent. Those who prefer bold flavors would think that their broth is under-seasoned. The one we had lacked the Vietnamese spices and was definitely, not authentic. Meat-wise, they were pretty generous but a pity that the Beef was over-cooked and the texture was rough. But judging the noodle dish alone, it was pretty decent and the hearty portion justified the price well. Not a bad place to drop by for a regular meal, if you do not mind the fact that this is not authentically Vietnamese.

  2. That RM5 bowls of noodles (both dry and soup) are generous with ingredients.

  3. Been there twice and the fried spring roll is very nice. Very recommended!!! However, I think the location is too isolated and very hard to locate.
