Urban Spice Cafe @ Lebuh Aceh, Georgetown, Penang.
Urban Spice Cafe is often overshadowed by the neighboring mural paints and Poke Stops at the tourist-centric Armenian-Aceh Street zone or rather, the cafe remains low-key despite of its opening in early 2016. The cafe is housed in a 8 decade-old heritage house; the exterior looks dull and uninspiring but the interior suggests otherwise. The interior is chic yet, preserving the heritage elements. Minimal renovation was done to the heritage building, probably some touches to refine the period pieces. On the menu, it challenges its competitors with the usual cafe fare- All Day Breakfast, Pasta dishes and locals delights but we were surprised that it does not receive the same kind of attention that most cafes (with similar menus) do; that does not mean that Urban Spice Cafe isn't worth the visit nevertheless. The place is most cozy and comfortable to have a casual meal with friends or family.
Aglio Olio (Rm 18)
All Day Breakfast (Rm 22)
The menu may seem big but nothing is particularly exciting. We fell back on the basic Aglio Olio, Urban Spice's rendition consists of piles of fresh Shitake Mushrooms and served with shredded Parmasan Cheese. The Spaghetti could be more al-dente and the earthy flavor was too bold to our liking... too strong that it became repulsive. Seasonings were spot on and well-spiced with a sleek peppery-hot sensation nevertheless.
Perfect for weight-watchers, the All Day Breakfast comes with a foot-long Chicken Sausage, Sunny Side Up, Toast (with Butter) and some stir-fried Potatoes and Peas. It lacked the surprise factor, as direct and standard as it seems.
