[The Original] Boat Noodles @ Sunway Carnival Mall, Seberang Jaya, Penang.

The very-hyped Thai Boat Noodle trend in Penang seen a few new opening of Thai Boat Noodle outlets but the market leader- Boat Noodles did not respond to the trend. We believe the trend has subsided for now but recently, The Original Boat Noodles has decided to expand their business operations to Penang. The first branch by the brand is now open at Sunway Carnival Mall and relentless queues were spotted during our trips there. It was not easy for us either, we gladly joined the queue and it took us approximately 15 minutes to clear it. The Thai menu is Boat Noodles-centric with a few sides while the interior decor is minimal and a lot of tables (distance between tables is small). If I were to nitpick, there are rooms for improvements- the floor was not properly cleaned, utensils were greasy; the only thing praise-worthy was the crowd-management. Find Boat Noodles on the Second Floor of Sunway Carnival Mall, a stone's throw distance away from Hanamaru and Yoshinoya

Pathumthani Beef/ Chicken Thai Rice Noodles (Rm 1.90)

Ayutthaya Chicken/ Beef Thai Egg Noodles (Rm 1.90)

Thai Popeye's Tempura (Rm 6.90)

There are two flavors to choose from- Pathumthani and Ayutthaya; both names refer to the cities in Thailand with the former one refers to central Bangkok while the latter one refers to a city north of Bangkok. Pathumthani assures us with a familiar Thai Boat Noodle-elements, the broth was rich and robust with herbaceous flavors while Ayutthaya seems to be funkier with a creamy end. Both flavors were alright and best to be enjoyed with extra condiments like Chili Flakes and Fish Sauce. Diners can opt for Thai Rice Noodles or Egg Noodles, the former one carries a chewy-resilient texture while the Egg Noodles resemble texture of Wan Ton Mee. We thought both were equally tasty and have no preference whatsoever.

For something to munch on, we had their Thai Popeye's Tempura. Betel Leaves-alike products battered and deep fried to perfection... served with a savory-sweet creamy concoction. The batter was well-crafted but the Tempuras were a tad too greasy to our liking.
