KyoChon Korean Fried Chicken @ G Hotel Penang.

Let's talk Chicken in this review. The Korean's way of pairing Fried Chicken and chilled Beer has stormed the world and recently, Penang welcomes one of the most prominent brands in this specialization- Korean Fried Chicken (KFC). Fried Chicken enthusiasts should not be new to the big name- KyoChon, the franchise-brand operates in many countries and is well-known for serving some of the best Korean Fried Chicken. The first Penang branch lands at G Hotel (right next to the al-fresco zone of Gurney Plaza/ opposite to Winter Warmers and right next to The Cream & Fudge Factory); the heat-intolerant may opt to dine-in at the fully air-conditioned corner while those who prefer a more outdoorsy environment could choose to dine-in at the al-fresco dining area. Chicken fans would be glad to know that KyoChon's menu focuses heavily on Chicken (duh), with a few Korean-inspired sides (such as Tteokbokki/ Chicken Porridge etc). While we were happy with the quality, we thought the prices were somewhat hefty...

Mix Wings (8 pieces for Rm 18.50)

Salsal Chicken Strips (4 pieces for Rm 11.50)

We've had Kyo Chon's Salsal Chicken Strips before (in Pavilion branch), we thought the ones here in Penang were of same quality. The Chicken Strips were deep fried till perfect crisp while the inner part remains juicy and tender. It went well with the Honey Mustard dip. To our dismay, their signature Deep Fried Chicken Wings and Drumette were of smaller sizes than expected. There were not much flesh, though the flavors were bold, it lacked the satisfying meaty bite. In case you are wondering... the Fried Chicken were not greasy at all.... thanks to the Korean's way of frying Chicken, which renders out all the fats in the meat, leaving a crispy crust with succulent flesh inside.

If I must vote, I'd personally prefer their Red Pepper version, it gives a burning sensation and would only be recommended to those with higher spicy tolerance. We washed everything down with a pint of Hoegaarden (Rm 28/ 500 ml).
