17 Kelawei Fusion Cuisine @ Kelawei Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Unless you have heard of it, you would not realize that it's a restaurant from outside (if not for its signage). 17 Kelawei Fusion Cuisine is an old mansion turned cafe/ restaurant, the place has the "je ne sais quoi" sort of elegance, probably due to the soft lighting and English-styled setting... with couches and old-school tiles. The restaurant has 3 different menus for breakfast, lunch and dinner; we attempted a few dishes on their breakfast menu... a la semi-buffet style. Diners are to order one main on the menu while the items on the buffet-table are of complimentary and free flow. While we thought their interior decor was somewhat classy but the menu was uninspiring and and lacked of excitement (mostly processed-frozen food). 17 Kelawei is located right in front of Gurney Tower, two doors away from UOB Bank on the same road.

Meeting Breakfast (Rm 15.90)

Big Breakfast (Rm 25.90)

Swiss Breakfast (Rm 25.90)

There are 2 different options- Breakfast Set (Rm 15.90 per item) and Breakfast Menu (Rm 25.90 per item), all orders are entitled for the free-flow semi-buffet. Their French Toast was a mediocre dish, Baguette-alike bread was used in lieu of soft-fluffy bread, the outcome was a hard-chewy piece of French Toast sans the eggy aroma. The Honey was of ersatz quality, though we did not expect to see Maple Syrup here but the Honey was a tad too watery to our liking.

Both orders under the Breakfast Menu were equally disappointing. There were too many processed food... which led us to question their sincerity. If there was one item that we could commend, that would probably be their Omelette, which was nicely cooked to the right texture and doneness. Their Potato Rosti was alright but it lacked the crispiness. To our dismay, some of the items seemed to be lacking of a touch of salinity. If you must know... on the buffet-counter, there were a nary of exciting items- purely stale bread and a couple of decent home-made Jam as well as Coffee/ Tea.
