20 Chulia Lane Cafe @ Chulia Lane, Georgetown, Penang.

To be frank, 20 Chulia Lane Cafe did not give me the feeling that I was stepping into a cafe. The interior decor makes it looks like a Chinese restaurant. The whole place feels very homey, as though I have just entered someone else's house in the neighborhood. But the menu is quite Western-centric, just a couple of Asian-Oriental offering. There seems to be many old-fashioned knick-knacks inside but we did not explore the place too much (we just had a quick lunch there). All in all, some dishes were alright but the "X" factor was not there. The management needs to come out with something unique to survive in this competitive market. 20 Chulia Lane Cafe is tucked in one of the heritage houses at the quiet alley- Chulia Lane, off Chulia Street in Georgetown.

All Day Breakfast (Rm 18)

Stir Fried Tom Yum Spaghetti (Rm 18)

We had both Western and Asian delights, the All Day Breakfast was huge but the elements were predictable. The Stir Fried Mushrooms did not look promising but fortunately, they were smart enough to cover the peculiar canned-mushroom smell. The Scrambled Egg did possess the right texture- fluffy and soft but it lacked that one pinch of Salt. The Sausages and Baked Beans were of standard-average.

While the All Day Breakfast did not hit us, we thought their Stir Fried Tom Yum Spaghetti was good. Not only that the Pasta was carefully cooked to the right al-dente texture, the flavors were bold either. It carried a balanced medley of sweet, sour, savory and chili-kick (though it was a little saltish towards the end).

Home-made Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream (Rm 14)

Matcha Waffle with Chocolate Ice Cream (Rm 12)

To end, we shared Home-made Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream and Matcha Waffle with Chocolate Ice Cream. The former dish caught us in a whiff of Buttery aroma when it was first served to our table. The pastry skin of the Apple Pie was a tad too flaky to our liking but the filling was toothsome. The diced Apple was expertly cooked with Cinnamon and the texture was still in crisp. It was a divine (hot and cold) combination to pair with Vanilla Ice Cream (we believe it's just an ordinary brand, not from premium brand).

The Matcha Waffle on the other hand, was a disappointment. The edges had hints of crispiness but we still could not agree on the texture. It was a little too dense for us. Chocolate Ice Cream was.... meh.
