Journey 2 Life (旅人) @ Bay Avenue, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Vegetarian food is not interesting, vegetarian food is all about mock meat or greens.... you may often hear these lines (or think like them) but you may want to think again after visiting Journey 2 Life at Bay Avenue. Not only specializes in serving vegetarian food, the restaurant looks into healthy vegetarian food as well. Walk into the restaurant and you will find many posters promoting healthy campaigns on the walls, as well as brochures educating the public on Chinese Food Therapy. The place has a rather unique setting- in shades of wooden beam while the hanging light bulbs produce warm and soft light, exuding a harmonized melody to the dining area. The menu covers Starters, Entrees, Mains and even desserts; all reasonably priced by Penang standard. Journey 2 Life is right next to My Voice Cafe (Big Bowl Ramen) at Bay Avenue.

We thought serving Eryngii Mushrooms the Sashimi way was somewhat cool- Wasabi Eryngii Mushrooms (Rm 6.90) had us surprised; the texture was somewhat similar to Sashimi Butterfish, minus the fish stench of course. The Mushrooms were not entirely raw, they were lightly blanched before they were served. The taste was somewhat straight-forward and predictable; something unusual that one could not find elsewhere.

The taste of Herbal Soup Noodles (Rm 10.90) did not shine. The seemingly invigorating broth barely registered any flavors; it relied heavily on the Cabbage and Goji Berries, for that hint of vege-sweetness. The texture of the noodles, however, was perfectly alright; at least, they were not slouchy at all. Not the type of dish for those who prefer bold flavors.

Soy Pudding topped with Organic Mangoes (Rm 5.90)

Almond Cheese Balls (Rm 6.90)

Sweet ending were Soy Pudding and Cheese Balls; the former one was disappointingly average, though the Pudding possessed the right texture but we thought the flavor was too mild. Almond Cheese Balls, on the other hand, were unique. The Cheese Balls have traces of Cream Cheese and texture akin to Ice Cream, well covered with crushed Almond while the filling was Pineapple. It has a nice balanced of refreshingly juicy sweet and savory flavor as well as a nutty texture.
