Brown Pocket @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.

Brown Pocket, a newly opened dessert cafe, is a delightful addition to Gurney Paragon mall. Its iconic location at Gurney Paragon mall allows exhausted shoppers to hide away from the crowds and have a short rest by savoring some of their signature desserts. Brown Pocket offers an array of desserts comprises of Waffles, Crepe and imported Ice Cream. The place has a very good ambiance with spacious and comfortable seating which exude a relaxed vibe and offers a breath-taking view. It was the very first day of business since their soft opening, the staff was rather unsystematic probably due to first day jitters. Brown Pocket is located strategically on level 6 of Gurney Paragon Mall, opposite to Celebrity Fitness and facing Kelawai Road (corner unit).

This enticing Triple Chocolate Liège Waffles (Rm 18.90) comes two delightful Waffles, served with 3 different types of Chocolate (White Chocolate, Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate) and 2 scoops of premium Ice Cream, as well as a dollop of Whipped Cream. The Waffles were served to us warm and had a good texture of crisp on the outside and soft yet fluffy on the inside. Great on its own but even better with the additional scoop of Ice Cream. Butter Almond and Oreo Chocolate Cookie Ice Cream were served, the hot and cold sensation definitely struck my palates. We also had the Waffles dribbled with their Chocolate sauces but I thought they were just okay, nothing to shout over. No doubt the Chocolate sauces were rich and thick to my liking but the combination does not work out as magical as I thought it would be though. Additionally, the melting speed of the Ice Cream was beyond our expectation, 2 scoops of Ice Cream melted in a glimpse of eye; do make sure you are able to finish it off before the Ice Cream melted. A very sinful yet worth-trying dessert; a contenting dessert to share among friends too.

On the other hand, their Kiwi Mango Crepe (Rm 16.90) scored poorer as compared to the previous one; a paper-thin Crepe topped with 2 scoops of Ice Cream (Vanilla Ice Cream and Mango Ice Cream) with copious amount of freshly diced up Mangoes and Kiwis, completed with drizzle of Chocolate Sauce. A rather straight-forward dessert with crepe, fruits and Ice Cream. I thought the texture of the crepe appears to be too thin to my liking, it lacked of a bite. However, compliments should be given for serving the fruits fresh yet not overly ripen for the Mangoes, the sourish tinge from the fruits fits the definition of refreshing. Despite that I have no complaints for the taste but I am not sure if I am willing to pay so much for a fruit-crepe dessert though.
