Maple Palace @ Maple Gold Club House, Penang

Located in Maple Gold Club House, there is a Chinese restaurant which serves authentic Chinese cuisine, they claimed that they are serving the finest Chinese cuisine in town. Do try it if you are in doubt, but before that, please allow me to review some of the dishes I've tried earlier ago. You do not have to be a member of the Maple Gold Club House to dine in in this restaurant, outsiders are welcome. Coincidentally, they are doing this promotion(discount) for Peking Roast Duck on every Monday and Tuesday. For more information, please check with the management of Maple Palace.

Peking Roast Duck (北京烤鸭) is famous of the crispy and crunchy skin, roasting the duck's skin to a perfect texture and serve it with a sweet sauce. Spring onions and cucumber will be added too, together, all the ingredients will be wrapped with a layer of pancake specially made to go with the duck. The spring onion is supposed to add some flavour to the duck while the cucumber is to reduce the oiliness of the duck's skin. A new layer of texture will be created as well when they are being taken together. Highly recommended.

All the remaining meat will be used in cooking another dish separately. The dish prepared on that night was sauteed black pepper duck. Surprisingly, the duck meat was very tender. Unlike my previous visit to some other Chinese restaurant, their duck meat was very horrible. It took me sometime to chew them off. The pungent smell of the duck meat was also no where to be seen, they have successfully covered the taste with the brilliantly used black pepper sauce. Recommended.

Stir-Fried French Beans with Pumpkin (金瓜四季豆), a very healthy yet delicious dish. I was quite impressed with the texture of the pumpkin as for all the pumpkins I had, they were quite soft but surprisingly, the pumpkins maintained their crispy and crunchy texture.

Stir Fried Chicken With Hunan Spicy Sauce (湖南鸡丁). Speaking of the spiciness, the dish was rather disappointing as I don think it should be called spicy as the dish was more to sweet and sour instead. I would definitely prefer a more spicy one.

Stir Fried Prawns With Salted Egg Yolk (黄金明虾碌) The dish was too oily for me although i adore the combination of prawns and salted egg yolk. Very aromatic and crispy, but still, too oily.

Steamed Fish (清蒸时鱼) I was shocked to see that the fish was covered with pork slices when it was served. I think the pork slices were used to increase the flavour and the sweetness of the fish. The sauce was the Teo Chew's style, which means a bit sourish. Although the use of pork slices seem a bit odd to me, but the taste was perfectly okay and the fish was very fresh, just that the portion was abit small for nine of us. Do ask for a bigger fish when you are going in a group. Recommended.

They do offer a wide variety of dishes to their customers, some specialities will be their desserts and also their fish steamboat which I have yet to try them out.
