Tucked inside Island 88, GENs offers a kopitiam-style menu with a mix of familiar favourites and unique creations. Highlights include Nasi Lemak, Teo Chew Fried Porridge, and their signature Xi Xia Mi — a creative blend of Jawa Mee and Mee Udang. The setting is spacious and comfortable, making it ideal for casual meals. While the flavours are decent, the large serving portions make it a good-value spot for satisfying local eats.
Those with deeper pockets can opt for extra Prawns on the Xi Xia Mi, a cross-over between Jawa Mee and Mee Udang. We only opted for the basic ones with came with 2 pieces of Prawn Crackers. The sauce was thick and rich, almost like Jawa Mee with a hint of Tomato Ketchup and some crunchy greens. The Prawn Crackers were delicious addition to the noodles, addictively crispy and offered a different dimension to the dish. The Stir Fried Chee Cheong Fun was good too, the Wok Hei was there, almost like Char Koay Kak but in slight different texture. The French Toast and Fried Rice did not disappoint too. Not a bad place to go if you are looking for something simple with cozy atmosphere without putting a hole on the wallet.
