Flame @ De View Hotel, Air Hitam, Penang.

Perched high on a rooftop of a building at Air Hitam, Flame is a rooftop restaurant that redefines barbecue dining with a view. Specializing in flame-grilled creations, the menu is a celebration of smoky aromas and charred perfections; with a mix of local delights. Those who seek for a better view should look out for the igloo at the al-fresco dining area; each igloo is equipped with a cooler to ensure comfort. You will be rewarded with a scenic view overlooking the Air Hitam town and Kek Lok Si at the back. The restaurant itself on the other hand, offers a more proper sit-down dining experience. Definitely a unique dining spot for any occasions without putting a dent on the wallet.

Many Thanks to Flame for extending the invitation.

Kek Lok Si Durian Creme Brulee (Rm 23)

Flaming Bubble (Rm 24)

We shared a starter- the Brioche Bakar with Truffle Butter. For RM21, we were pretty impressed with the amount of Seafood- 3 huge Prawns and 4 Mussels with 3 pieces of toasted Brioche. The Brioche was unfortunately a tad too dry to our liking. The Seafood was fresh but slightly over-seasoned; worked well if enjoyed with the Brioche. The Sizzling Cheesy Wagyu Butter Rice was my favorite of the evening- the Wagyu Hamburg was beautifully cooked. The seasoning was spot on and the Buttered Rice was a lovely addition to the Beef; the Corns offered a burst of juice and a good contrast of texture to the rice too. The Flame Smoky Satay Chicken was not too shabby either- judging from the perspectives of both price and taste. Though it was a quarterly cut Chicken, the portion was huge. It came with 2 sides- mashed Potato and Coleslaw (of your choice- other options available). The Chicken was expertly marinated with a good Satay aroma. The accompanying sauce was somewhat a concoction of Sriracha and Peanut Sauce; not the usual cloyingly sweet Satay sauce. We also love the fact that the Chicken was carefully grilled to perfection. We ended with Flame's signature Durian Creme Brulee- amazingly Durian and not cloyingly sweet but apart from that, nothing overly exciting (just Durian-infused Creme Brulee and served using Durian husk).
