Thai food lovers will be glad to know that there is a new Thai restaurant opened in Farlim Square. Though the name Baan Khun Thai does sound familiar and may coincide with other establishment- we were made understood that this is a new Thai restaurant. The owner runs a Thai Wellness Centre a couple shops away from the restaurant. Menu-wise, it offers quite a good selection of Southern Thai delights. The restaurant is air-conditioned but might be less-accommodating for larger groups due to limited tables. Do make early reservation if you intend to visit in a large group.
We started with a very promising Som Tam- spicy, sour and crunchy Papaya with a good chili punch. Our favorite was in fact the Green Curry Chicken- addictively creamy with a multi dimensional flavors; the Chicken was unbelievably tender. It worked wonders with the Thai Jasmine Rice. We did not appreciate Tom Jiw- a signature dish of theirs. We thought the flavors were a little too weak to our liking despite the generous amount of herbs. A good amount of Seafood there though. The Keng Som Siakap was okay-average too, it lacked the quintessential sour note from Pineapples. It was monotonous; fortunately the Siakap was expertly fried with a good crisp.
Taste: 7/10 (1-3 bad, 4-7 average, 8-10 good)
Address: 52A-1, Farlim Square, Jalan Pisang Berangan, 11500, Ayer Hitam, Penang.
