Mama Zen Hokkien Noodles 妈妈珍正宗福建面 @ i-Santorini, Tanjung Tokong, Penang.

Hailed from Alor Setar, Mama Zen Hokkien Noodles 妈妈珍正宗福建面 was born in the capital city of Kedah since 2014... churning out tummy-warming Hokkien Mee for almost a decade. The Hokkien Mee specialist has decided to expand its business operations to Penang (also Sungai Petani) at i-Santorini Tanjung Tokong... offering a more extensive menu that includes other noodle choices too (like Loh Mee, Scallion Oil Noodles etc). It offers an air-conditioned, comfortable space to dine-in; considering the affordable prices, the place is worth a look (especially for the folks staying in the neighborhood).

Hokkien Mee (Rm 9.90/ small)

Lor Mee (Rm 9.90/ small)

Dry Hokkien Mee (Rm 9.90/ small)

Dry Scallion Noodles (Rm 11.90)

The signature Hokkien Mee comes in 2 versions- dry and soup. The broth carried a bold seafood sweetness from the crustacean but was over-seasoned and too salty to our liking. The Dry version was basically the same noodle-combo but dressed with dark Soy Sauce... so there was an extra hint of sweetness and Soy Sauce-aroma. We enjoyed the Loh Mee more than the Hokkien Mee, at least the gooey broth ticked all the boxes- good consistency backed by the five-spices aroma. We also liked their homemade Garlic-Chili concoction that went really well with the Loh Mee. We also had their Dry Scallion Noodles but we did not like the texture, not to say slouchy-soft but not as al-dente as we would have hoped. The Pork Lard aroma was there though.
