Kou Shui Ya Roasted Delights 口水鸭烧腊 @ Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Kou Shui Ya Roasted Delights 口水鸭烧腊 has a few outlets across Penang island. This outlet at Bayan Lepas is the 3rd and latest branch of the brand (another 2 branches can be found at Astaka Hillside Tanjung Bungah and Macalister Road). As suggested by the name- it specializes in roasted Duck (marinated with Dang Gui) and various Cantonese roasted meat. The place opens as early as 7 am in the morning and it is usually most crowded during lunch hours. Apart from the roasted Duck, Kou Shui Ya also churns out Black Pepper Char Siew, Siew Yoke, Honey Roasted Chicken Thigh... served with either Noodles or Rice.

The signature Roasted Duck has a hint of Dang Gui's herbaceous aroma, not to say very strong but discernible. The skin was crisp but the meat could be more tender. It worked perfectly well with the Chili dip and overall, we thought it was pretty decent (we have had better ones in Ipoh- read here). The Black Pepper Char Siew was alright too- tender, sweet backed by a peppery punch. The Noodles were less-satisfying, the texture was okay but the seasoning could be stronger... with bolder Soy sauce aroma. The Honey Chicken Whole Drumstick Rice was disappointing, while the Chicken was tender, we could not agree on the seasoning. We thought it was badly seasoned, it carried a mild sweetness similar to Char Siew sans the desired smokiness.
