Qian Ji Beef Noodle 谦记牛肉面 @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

A Taiwanese Beef Noodle specialist, Qian Ji Beef Noodle 谦记牛肉面 is a fairly new Beef Noodle joint in the old Bukit Mertajam town. The menu revolves around Taiwanese Beef Noodles, with some extra add-ons and side dishes like Dumplings. The choices are limited especially if you are not into Beef. The place however, is comfortable and fully air-conditioned. Not too shabby for Taiwanese Beef Noodles but not to the extent that I would travel all the way to there to have it.

Beef and Tendon Noodles (Rm 20)

Scallion Oil Noodle (Rm 10)

Seafood Dumplings (Rm 8.60)

Hawthorn Juice (Rm 3)

We had the signature Beef and Tendon Noodles, served with rich Beef broth. The broth was extremely flavorful, backed by a bold beefy flavor. It carried a hint of spices as well as a mellow spiciness. The noodles were round and fat, imagine fatter Ramen noodles. The bite was satisfying and the texture was smooth. On the Beef, the meat was nicely braised to fork-tender but they were not quite generous enough with the meat. Also, we thought the portion was smaller than expected. If you are not into Beef Noodles, there is also this Scallion Oil Noodles. The same type of Noodles dressed in slightly sweet-savory Scallion Oil, served with a Sunny Side Up and greens. Not too bad but again, small portion. For side, we had the Seafood Dumplings. They were fried and flavor-wise, nothing to shout about... merely Dumplings. Not that they were bad but nothing out of the ordinary.
