Lao Cheng Du 老成都 @ Burmah Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Step in Lao Cheng Du 老成都, a fairly new restaurant at Burmah Road and you will be instantly transported to the 1950'... with old-school building and various knick-knacks from the past. We were amazed by the effort put in for the interior decor. On the food offering, the restaurant serves Dim Sum dishes with a small spread of Chinese dishes in the mornings; the usual Chinese small plates will commence at Noon. There are aplenty choices here- from appetizers to mains like Dumplings, Bao or even Noodle dishes. Price points are fair and reasonable, worth checking out if you are up for something new.

Crystal Prawn Dumpling (Rm 6.80)/ Char Siew Bao (Rm 6.80)/ Hang Zhou Xiao Long Bao (Rm 6.80)

Steamed Pork Ribs with Black Bean (Rm 6.80)

Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun (Rm 8.80)

Scallion Oil Ramen with Shredded Pork (Rm 9)

Lan Zhou Beef Noodles (Rm 12)

We were there on a morning so we got to try some of their Dim Sum dishes and a couple of Noodle options. We like the fact that the Dim Sum dishes were served to us piping hot, though none of them disappoint, we did not find them outstanding. The Hong Kong Chee Cheong Fun was a little disappointing though, the Rice Rolls were too thick to our liking. Also, the serving portion was smaller than expected. For the Noodles, we found ourselves enjoying the Scallion Oil noodles more. The noodle texture was lovely but would be even better if the Scallion Oil Soy Sauce was sweeter. The Lan Zhou Beef Noodle was a little too mild in seasoning but when we had it with the Chili flakes, it was not too shabby.
