Bread lovers should not be new to the name- Yin's Sourdough Bakery, the brand has strong presence across the Penang state and has recently expanded its business operations to the central region. For the uninitiated, Yin's had a humble start as a bakery and it slowly expands its food offering to introduce more mains and desserts... even roasting their own Coffee beans now. But one thing does not change- their menu is still Sourdough-based with many healthy options. The branch Gurney Walk occupies a prominent lot, right next to the main entrance to the community hub. While most of the offering is similar to other branches, this particular outlet focuses more on healthy fermented products like Kombucha or Kefir. It also has a bigger spread of Pastries and classic loaves due to the demand in the neighborhood. It is also noteworthy that the menu has got many options for those practicing plant-based diet.

Looking for something light or to share? Try their Kombucha Clam Pot served with toasted Sourdough Focaccia. The broth carries a rich seafood sweetness with a sleek creaminess. The beautifully toasted Sourdough Focaccia adds a nice crisp and texture to the dish. For heavier option, the Sourdough Chicken Lasagna is a good choice. The Lasagna sheet is made of Sourdough. It is ladened with a generous amount of Chicken Bolognese sauce and topped with melted Cheese. This is a very hearty portion with overly generous amount of Chicken, perfect for sharing. Yin's Sourdough Bakery is also very creative with their Pizza, the Banana Kaya Pizza fits for both Main and Dessert. The crust is expertly baked, lightly spread with their home-made Kaya and topped with ripened Banana as well as a thin Cheese layer. It is a sweet-savory combination, perfectly balanced. The Kaya did not kill the dish for being overly sweet but it is in fact, toned down with the Cheesy saltiness. Quite an addictive dish to share. Exclusively for Durian lovers, the Durian Burst Cheese Cake is the best way to end the meal. Using fresh Durian sourced from Bao Sheng Durian Farm, the Durian Burnt Cheese Cake has a potent Durian flavor with a creamy texture... sweet but not overly so. Best to enjoy with the fizzy-refreshing Gurney G (Lemon, Mint and Water Kefir with a little Vanilla Syrup).
