Ookane Mochi @ Pulau Tikus, Penang.

Fancy both Ramen and Waffle? You can now have both at the newly opened Ookane Mochi, a stone's throw distance away from Pulau Tikus morning market. The cafe uses Muji-style minimalist design and offers a cozy-comfortable space for visitors. During its soft-launch period, the menu is a little small... only offering a few Waffle choices, some Ramen and Japanese-inspired Rice Bowls as well as some Cakes. Price points are definitely on the higher side, a good spot for casual meet ups nevertheless.

Mochi Waffle (Rm 22)

Char Siu Ramen with Black Garlic Oil (Rm 24)

I was told that the Black Garlic Char Siu Ramen is their best seller. Intrigued by the taste, I decided to go for it. The Ramen noodles could be more al-dente but the pork broth was thick, rich and creamy. The real draw was the extra touch of Black Garlic paste. It carried a sleek acidity which introduced a slightly refreshing touch to the dish and cut through the greasiness. I thought the Ramen was in fact, better some Japanese Ramen joints in town. The sweet treat of Mochi Waffle was less-impressive though. The texture was overly soft to my liking; the Matcha Ice Cream was sweet but the extra douse of Honey killed it. The concoction was way over my sugar tolerance level. Might not be a bad idea to share the Waffle with a friend or two though.
