Bón Wine and Dine @ Penang Heritage Club, Penang.

A place not to be missed by meat-obsessed foodies; the newly opened French-European restaurant Bón Wine and Dine at Penang Heritage Club is one of the latest and best places to hit up for fine dry-aged Beef cuts. Not many restaurants in Penang offering dry-aged cuts as the dehydration process causes lesser yield and therefore, costlier to restaurateurs; but the process improves its texture and intensifies its flavor... for that reason, it is loved by many beef lovers. Bón Wine and Dine has a dry-aging cabinet beautifully displaying the dry-aging meat, showcasing the premium steak selection that would make your mouth water. Apart from the beef option, there are other non-beef items which cater for all range of diners... as well as carefully picked wine labels (some uncommon ones even from Syria). For those who wish to sample more, the 5-course prix-fixe menu offers great values in return... priced at RM288+ per pax (extra RM80 per pax for wine pairing- 3 glasses). It is also worth mentioning that Penang Heritage Club offers complimentary parking with ample parking lots.

Many Thanks to Bón Wine and Dine for hosting us that evening.

Homemade Sourdough Bread with Marchand De Vin Butter

Native Balik Pulau Oyster

Dry Aged Beef Tartare (additional Rm 15)

21 Day Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak

Deconstructed Tropical Eton Mess

The 5-course dinner started off with a piece of beautifully toasted Homemade Sourdough Bread served with Marchand De Vin Butter and a touch of Sea Salt. The Butter was lovely- creamy but not overly so, the classic Red Wine reduction sauce did cut through the greasiness a little... offering a more refreshing touch to the creamy Butter. With our mouth filled with buttery aroma, we welcomed the next dish- Native Balik Pulau Oyster served with Kerabu-inspired sauce and Mignonette granita. It was quite a change of flavor which was out of our expectation. We thought the combination was a little overly playful and the spices overpowered the Oyster. The shellfish on its own, was very fresh and delicious though. Right before the entrée, we were served with their Dry Aged Beef Tartare which was unexpectedly delicious. We were blown away by the refreshing combination of Quail Egg Yolk, deep fried Capers and fresh Cucumber... along with the expertly seasoned 21 day dry-aged Angus Sirloin. The Angus Sirloin offered a sleek, flavorful bite while the Capers introduced a mild layer of acidity while the Cucumber added a crunchy-juicy texture.

The entrée- 21 Day Dry Aged Rib Eye Steak was served with Truffle Mashed Potato, grilled Asparagus with Lemon, Pumpkin Apple puree and Red Wine Jus. The Steak was deftly grilled and remain juicy inside, the intrinsic deep flavor of the meat was definitely enhanced. It was so good that any beef lovers would be able to resonate. We ended the meal with Deconstructed Tropical Eton Mess; the classic English Meringue-Cream dessert was served in a different but better way. The Meringue was able to retain its crispiness while the whipped Cream and tropical fruits introduced a fruity-creamy touch.
