My Kalasan @ Juru Sentral, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Named after a famous dish from Indonesia- Ayam Penyet Kalasan, My Kalasan at Juru Sentral is one of the few places where you get to find this Indonesian delight. But the place is not a one-trick pony, the menu features a wide array of familiar local dishes as well (expect to find Fish Meat Noodles and Fried Rice there). Spicy food lovers would be glad to know that the restaurant serves Sambal at different spicy level. Big menu with good range of dishes to offer at reasonable prices, a place worth exploring if you are in the vicinity.

We had all 3 types of the Chicken, not much of a big difference as the difference in seasoning is quite minimal. The Ayam Penyet was slightly drier in texture but the herb fragrance was bolder; the Ayam Bakar was relatively juicier but the seasoning was weaker. We enjoyed the Chicken with their Sambal; we were slightly disappointed with the spicy level... as the Sambal was not as hot as we would have hoped. Another notable dish was the Kalasan Lok Mie... an Indonesian-influenced rendition of Wan Ton Mee served with Pork meat slices; the texture was lovely and the seasoning was spot on with a mild Pork Lard aroma. None of the dishes we had were disappointing, this place would score higher if they could increase the heat level of the Sambal.
