Blue Bellvine Nyonya Cuisine @ Noordin Street, Georgetown, Penang.

One of the latest places to get a Nyonya meal is Blue Bellvine Nyonya Cuisine, a new Nyonya restaurant right smack in town at Noordin Street, central Georgetown. The restaurant is fairly new and boasts full-fledged Nyonya menu, from Appetizers to Main Meat dishes as well as Desserts... though the options for each category are rather limited. The restaurant has a very nice and elegant setting; you could tell from how the things are organized here- from color combinations and the choice of eating utensils. Definitely a place where you would want to spend time enjoying the dishes here (do spare some extra time as the serving time might take a little longer than usual). Prices are on the higher side though... given the small serving portion.

Ju Hu Char Pie Tie (Rm 9)

Curry Chicken with Mantao (Rm 23)

Sambal Udang (Rm 25)

Acar (Rm 15)

Grouper Fish Otak with Biscuits (Rm 10)

Five-Spiced Loh Bak (Rm 15)

Blue Bellvine Nyonya Bak Chang (Rm 10.80)

Blue Bellvine Rice (Rm 3)

Organic Lemongrass and Ginger (Rm 7)/ Organic Popsicle (Rm 7)

We started off light with a classic Nyonya appetizer- Ju Hu Char Pie Tie, the Ju Hu Char was fine and pretty standard but the Pie Tie cups were fresh and crisp. The concoction was refreshing but we would prefer if they could also offer some Sambal Belacan for the extra spicy punch. The Acar was refreshing- with the right amount of seasoning and crunch (sans the greasiness from the Chili Oil). Equally good was the Grouper Fish Otak- with bold flavors, creamy texture and chunks of Grouper fish. To serve it with Cheese Crackers was something different but the combo worked. The Curry dishes on the other hand- Sambal Udang and Curry Chicken were less-impressive; both were rather diluted and watered down when spooned over Rice. For ending, we had the Blue Bellvine Nyonya Bak Chang... with generous amount of filling. The sweet and savory seasoning was spot on and the Glutinous Rice was nicely cooked, we certainly enjoyed this the most.
