Kee Heng Restaurant 奇香海鲜餐馆 @ Nibong Tebal, Penang.

Kee Heng Restaurant 奇香海鲜餐馆 has always been the de-facto family dine-out place at Nibong Tebal. Found right next to the main road of Nibong Tebal old town, Kee Heng has been around for decades and its one of the popular places for family gatherings or occasions. The place is known for churning out delicious classic Chinese stir fry dishes with consistent quality and inexpensive price tags. There is no menu at Kee Heng but rely on the servers to make recommendations. The dining area is comfortable- fully air conditioned and tables are well-spaced; these are some reasons why the place remains popular until today.

Stir Fried Udon with Black Pepper (Rm 10)

Thai-style Steamed Siakap (Rm 40)

Claypot Tofu (Rm 10)

Stir Fried Water Spinach with Sambal (Rm 6)

We wanted to try their noodle dish and were recommended their Stir Fried Udon with Black Pepper. It was a beautifully done dish- imbued with strong wok hei and the texture was amazing. The noodles maintained the springy texture and the Black Pepper flavor did not overwhelm the dish; best of all, not greasy at all. The Thai-style Steamed Siakap was nicely done as well- constantly heating up using coal, the fish was served to us piping hot. The soup carried a mild spiciness with a sleek sweetness, almost like Kheng Som but sweeter version and without pineapples. All dishes were reasonably seasoned and cooked with great consistency.
