The Pinn 老品 @ Gat Lebuh Melayu, Georgetown, Penang.

Founded by a group of besties,  The Pinn 老品 is unlike any ordinary cafes or restaurants in town; it aims to bring in the flavors from the yesteryears and recreate long-lost dishes. The team does not mind the painstaking preparation process, most of the items on the food menu are home-made. Though the menu is not big, it offers what the team could possibly best offer. The signature dish is the home-made Fish Balls (can be served with noodles) with a small choices of Dumplings and sides. Nothing fancy on the interior decor but just a simple space for a casual, comforting meal.

The only main dish available at The Pinn and also the signature dish, The Pinn Fish Ball Soup with Glass Noodles features their home-made Fish Balls. It can be ordered as Fish Ball Soup alone but diners may also opt to add on noodles to make it more substantial (at additional cost). The Fish Balls were lovely with a firm, meaty texture and bold fish flavor; this also went well with the clean tasting soup. It has a strong umami flavor which we presumed it was cooked for hours using Fish bones (the fishy-flavor was discernible). The seasoning was spot on and the concoction was tummy-warming, a dish suitable for all range of eaters. We also had their Spicy Boiled Dumplings which turned out to be lovely as well. Each dumpling was beautifully cooked with firm texture, the accompanying sauce was not too overwhelming and the spiciness came from the Bird's Eye Chilies (not Chili Oil); the dumplings can also be enjoyed with their specially concocted Fermented Bean Paste (with extra Chilies). The combination was easy and light on the palate, suitable for those who prefer their food with a spicy punch sans the greasiness.
