Cui Xiang Lou Dim Sum 翠香楼点心 @ Perak Road, Jelutong, Penang.

One of the busiest breakfast spots at Jelutong is definitely Cui Xiang Lou Dim Sum 翠香楼点心, a new addition to Jelutong's food scene. The opening for Cui Xiang Lou attracts many early risers, mainly due to its wide range of classic Dim Sum offering and Chinese stir fry dishes. It's easy to locate this place, it occupies the corner lot of shop houses opposite to the Perak Road's wet market. Diners get to choose whether to be seated in the air-conditioned space or the outdoor dining area. The price points are middle average but given that the place is new, do not expect attentive service. In fact, you will need to fight your way to get your share of Dim Sum and have good patience before you get your dishes served (we waited 45 minutes for our noodles to arrive).

We were there late at 10 am and most of the Dim Sum dishes were not available. We had to wait for quite some time before they were ready on the steamer again. We were glad that most dishes were served to us piping hot and the quality was assuring. Both Siew Mai and Har Kaw were not disappointing- at least they registered the flavor and meaty texture appropriately. The disappointment kicked in when the noodles were served to us. Orders were all over the place and we had to constantly remind the servers on our orders. They seemed to be quite confused on the table numbers. We believe the Hai Lam Noodle was cooked and ready for quite some time before it was served to us- the noodles were soggy and the texture was horrible. Oddly, while it took them quite some time to locate us, it happened again for the Hong Tou Noodles. Just in case you are wondering, nothing out of the ordinary for the noodles. We could only give credits to the Dim Sum.
