Sin Bee Beans And Food Cafe @ Ong Yi How, Butterworth, Penang.

One of the latest dining spots at Butterworth is Sin Bee Beans And Food Cafe, a Western-styled cafe that offers a big Western menu (except the name... which is quite "Chinese"). It can be found at Lorong Seri Tanjung, the commercial shop lots adjacent to Chung Ling Butterworth. It occupies the prominent corner lot and offers a spacious, cozy dining space. There 3 different dining tables available- the usual ones, low dining table with couches and long communal dining tables at the end. The menu offers a wide range of brunch items, pasta dishes, grills and snacks... with surprisingly wallet-friendly prices. Suitable for any occasions... whether casual dining or social gathering over food.

Start with the Thai Chili Shrimp Salad... perfectly seared Shrimps served on a bed of fresh greens and Thai Chili sauce. It was a very simple, straight-forward dish that relied heavily on the Thai Chili sauce flavor... nothing out of the ordinary. The main dish Duck Breast was nicely grilled on the surface and served with mashed Potatoes and greens... as well as a zesty Orange jam. While the Duck Breast skin has a crackling crisp texture, the inner meat texture was peculiarly mushy. We were expecting a juicy, meaty texture but it was completely opposite. Fortunately, the mashed Potato was nicely done- creamy and perfectly seasoned. For dessert, we had French Toast... which was alright. While the toast was slightly a little dry to our liking, the egg flavor was there. We were also a little disappointed that Maple Syrup was not used, only some ersatz honey for the sweetness. All in all, there were some hits and misses but given the affordable prices, this place is still worth a visit.
